As part of his degree in Sociology at the University of Geneva, Ilan wrote a dissertation heavily influenced by Eliasian theory. The paper is entitled, "La mise en coulisse de la violence. Dégoût, violences légitimes etcivilisation au tournant du XIXème siècle" (Occultation of violence. Disgust, legal violence and civilization at the turn of the 19th century) and its forms the basis of a forthcoming book.
Ilan is currently in the first year of his PhD at the Centre d'Analyse et d'Intervention Sociologiques, in the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences, Paris, France. His doctorate is dedicated on analyzing testimonies of mass violence perpetrators (policemen, militaries) in different contexts of dictatorship.
